If there is a technology guru and review who can make a break a technology's future with a few keystrokes, it's Walt Mossberg. The veteran gear reviewer for the Wall Street Journal is now out with his take on the iPad, and he calls it nothing short of revolutionary. Oh boy. This should uncork any remaining iPad hype that hadn't already boosted the press  into oxygen-depleted zones of the atmosphere.  The iPad is now akin to the discovery of the wheel. Why not? Tablets, wheels, they're both the kind of things that hairy men liked to tool around with at the beginning of time like. Only this kind of tablet is lit by a sexy flat screen, and you can stream Internet video on it. What could be better? Walt says the iPad is a "game-changer.'" Apple "has the potential to change portable computing profoundly." It's a whole new type of computer, says Walt.  The battery lasted nearly 12 hours (what is it fueled by, Kryptonite?). "Watching videos, viewing photos, listening to music, reading books and playing games was satisfying and fun." He made a video about it. Okay, so it does everything. Maybe it can also end the recession, bring down health-care costs, and balance the budget. Now that would be cool! Mossberg's review is exhaustive, but he spends an awful lot of time asking if the iPad can replace a conventional laptop. What a silly question. This is the modern world, Walt. You don't replace electronics, you just pile new ones into your silicon-infested house, accumulating new kilos of toxic junk for generations ahead of us to recycle. Yes, Mossberg has confirmed that Steve Jobs is God, at least in the technology world. It looks like the iPad is being received as his version of the Ten Commandments.
